The day-page-set for the talk in the ‘wiki-net’
Read the page talk, explained.
The talk in which wikis do we listen to? Who is listening to the talk in the ‘wiki-net’? See the wiki-net talk.
Ok, no more experiments, basta. Straight wiki-net instead.
reverted the soups via sub-pipes in yahoo pipes
I reverted my attempts to build the soup via sub-pipes in yahoo pipes in all four wikis I tried it in. It caused more load. I should still be able to filter the doubled day-page posts in the soup. To do.
The wiki-net is pretty fast now.
the soup via sub-pipes in yahoo pipes
I’m not sure it was a good idea to construct the soup using sub-pipes in yahoo pipes.
I have done that in four wikis:
Maybe I’ll revert it again.
not in the end
The good part: I finally solved overloading issues by removing direct video streams via soup.io and direct socialmention.com inclusions from the wikis. I activated the instantly shared local names trough all wiki hives. Writing [[name of the wiki - name of the page]] creates a link from any wiki to any wiki in the one big soup. A few examples:
The bad part: google feedburner, I can’t create new feeds anymore, I can’t edit existing feeds anymore since ~ a week. It seems google ain’t google in the end.
This is pretty bad!
“dummy” RecentChanges in the main wikis
I did something weird: I created “dummy” RecentChanges in the main wikis.
A page RecentChanges exists in all wikis sitting in the wiki-hives, RecentChanges for example. But in the main wikis of the wiki-hives the page has different names:
In the main wikis there is a local name recent changes defined. It points to the address showing the recent changes to the main wiki exclusively, for example odd-wiki-hive - recent changes (= http://oddwiki.org/odd?action=rc;local=1). Redirecting to this page from RecentChanges would be silly and doesn’t work.
When recently making the sister site icons at the bottom of pages work I realized that the icons link to pages RecentChanges in the main wikis which didn’t exist. Therefore I made the “dummy” pages and therefore only.
This does not yet feel quite right to me, I’m only testing. Probably the main wikis rather need a page called AllRecentChanges (similar for all wiki hives, no hive name in it) and I also need to change RecentChanges to AllRecentChanges somewhere else (like in the config or so, not sure).
one of my hobbies
working on the wiki-net
automatic feed translation
I’ve recently been working on the pussy-riot-wiki. I’d like to automatically translate the feeds for the facebook pussy riot groups and pages mainly in Russian to English as described on pussy-riot-wiki - 2012-08-30 talk.
I’m collecting links probably helpful:
google translate yql table on github
Thanks for your help.
Mattis Manzel 2012-09-02:
Solved. I found a yahoo pipe I modified a bit. It makes microsoft Bing translate text automatically. Bing seems the only service available without being charged for right now.
A similar project, on Mediawiki. http://awasu.com/wiki/Automatic_Feed_Translation
a little idea
started applying advances
Today I started applying the advances I recently made in the soup-wiki to the 'wiki-net': Eviting double aggregation, eviting to overload soup.io, it looks good. Much, much better than two weeks ago.
Let’s just see …
no, not a master of mental flexibility
No, I’m not a master of mental flexibility. It takes endless repetition of the same thing with tiny improvements here and now for me to dig deep enough into it to understand. No, I’m not a master of mental flexibility.
Unfortunately there will be stagnation on problems with soup.io persisting since May 2012. I love this beautiful service-in-the-clouds, since a few weeks ago it used to provide the soups in the wiki-net which I kinda started building when I first found soup.io long ago. It became much too central in what I added in the following years and I’m probably to blame for overloading soup.io. Sorry, soup-folks. It happened playfully if so.
I will have to find a new way to do what I did using soup.io before. I need to balance nicely between web-services. Dunno how yet, but there must be a way (→|). Friendfeed is powerful, I mean. And maybe I’ll learn a bit better to use yahoo pipes? Who knows? It would be stupid to not continue searching after all.
So have a nice day, everybody.
